Mermaiding

What is mermaiding?

Mermaiding is an expression of the English language that can be translated as "acting like a mermaid". Mermaiding can therefore be defined as the aquatic discipline that reproduces the swimming of the sirens, the mythological figures half 'female half' fish.

In Mermaiding, thanks to the use of a sheath that encloses the body from the sides to the feet and ending with a monofin, you swim with fluid movements of the pelvis, using both legs like a caudal fin. The monofin, in which the feet are inserted, is made of flexible plastic and is covered with a soft and resistant fabric that allows every fast and dynamic underwater movements; the whole lower muscular and skeletal chain is activated, giving power to the thrust without any strain on the back. Then by supporting the arms you can perform unique series of swimming activities, rotations and pirouettes underwater hydrodynamics and elegant.

The benefits
The regular practice of Mermaiding leads to strengthening the back and lumbosacral muscles, gives lower limbs and toned buttocks, harmonious movements and the prolongation of the apnea phases: the Mermaiding, once learned the basic techniques, is a predominantly underwater discipline that provides apnea phases interspersed with short ascents on the surface.

Mermaiding is a complete discipline, which if practiced with constancy and dedication gives a high degree of physical, emotional and mental harmonization, an increase in awareness and self-esteem, fluidity and elegance of movements even outside the water, the opportunity to get rid of blocks and fears. For many it can become a lifestyle, an artistic expression of the body and the mind, the opportunity to live the dream turning into a mermaid or a merman, mythical beings able to live in harmony with themselves and in symbiosis with the environment in which they are immersed.

Swimming underwater, in the absence of external noises, immersed, cradled and caressed by the water, listening to their breath and heartbeat, surrounded by marine flora and fauna, reconnecting themselves with respect for their nature. This is the great gift that comes from the practice of Mermaiding. Finally, Mermaiding is suitable for everyone and for all ages. Naturally it is necessary to have some wateriness and the desire to live the sea with respect and love.
